About this event
Lauren Sgro is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the SETI institute, working alongside Unistellar to build their network of citizen astronomers and process the results that come from observers around the world.
She currently leads this citizen science network’s Exoplanets Program, in which participants record transit data for both known and candidate exoplanets. She graduated with her PhD in Physics from the University of Georgia in 2022, where she studied debris disks around red dwarfs. She was recently appointed the Outreach Manager for LaserSETI, the SETI Institute’s optical SETI survey, which holds a goal of making its data publicly available.
Lauren is also a science communicator and writer who has written for a variety of outlets, from student-run blogs to Sky & Telescope magazine. One of her favorite things about astronomy, and science in general, is sharing it with others whether through writing or public outreach events. In her copious leisure time, she likes to read, practice circus arts, and spend time with friends and family."
